Reminders for busy business owners
As busy business owners, sometimes we need a reminder to not let the basics slip. Not because we don’t know better, but because sometimes survival mode kicks in.
Slow Down Your Emails (Just a Little)
When inquiries are coming in fast, I tend to reply quickly... and sloppily. That’s when typos sneak in, sentences don’t make sense and I end up confusing the client instead of helping them.
One simple habit that helps: I read my emails out loud before hitting send. It feels silly, but it catches mistakes every single time. If I’m frustrated that a client didn’t understand me, nine times out of ten it’s because I wasn’t clear.
Don’t Skip the Thank-You Email
After a busy weekend, I just want to mentally close the tab on a job. Archive the project. Move on.
But sending a thank-you email goes a long way. I’ve found that waiting until Monday or Tuesday actually works better than sending it immediately because clients have had time to enjoy their event, and they’re more likely to respond thoughtfully.
I use a template, but I always add one personal sentence. That extra touch matters.
Post the Work (Not Just in Stories)
I love Instagram Stories, but they disappear. When I don’t post my installs to my feed I’m missing an opportunity.
Posting photos of completed work does more than show your portfolio. It validates your clients publicly. It creates real-time social proof. And often, clients comment on those posts, which becomes a review in itself.
Set Future You Up for Success
One habit I’m recommitting to is scheduling reminder emails for repeat clients (birthdays, annual events, corporate parties, etc.). Nine months from now, Future Me will be very grateful when repeat bookings roll in without extra effort.
When business is busy, it’s tempting to cut corners. But those corners usually come back to haunt me a few months later.
So consider this a reminder to tighten up the basics. Not perfectly. Just consistently.
Because staying busy is great. Staying sustainable is better.
