Major Expansion at TUFTEX: A Behind-the-Scenes Chat with Allison Will

In the first episode of 2025 on The Bright Balloon Podcast, Sara Meyer kicks off the year with a major guest: Allison Will, owner of TUFTEX Balloons. With big changes, product launches, and plans for global growth, TUFTEX is stepping into a bold new chapter—and Allison shares how it all unfolded.
A New Facility in Canada
TUFTEX acquired a new factory in Hamilton, Ontario in August, a move that added new capabilities to their production line. The acquisition was months in the making and gave them access to manufacturing equipment that allowed for expansion into product categories they hadn’t been able to offer before—most notably, twisting balloons (260s).
The Hamilton facility had been operating for years under previous ownership, and many of the original staff stayed on through the transition. Allison explained that while the equipment and expertise existed at the new factory, integrating the TUFTEX latex recipe took collaboration between the Canadian and Ohio teams to get right.
Enter the TT260s
One of the most talked-about new releases is the TUFTEX 260s—nicknamed TT260s—which mark the company’s first foray into twisting balloons. These balloons have been well-received by artists for their smooth texture and vibrant colors. While the machinery and staff came from the Canadian acquisition, the latex and color formulas are all TUFTEX.
Although it wasn’t a flawless launch, Allison said the teams worked together to fine-tune the process quickly, thanks to decades of experience among the staff in Hamilton. The result is a balloon that blends familiarity with something fresh for twisters.
What’s Next: Chrome Balloons and Links
TUFTEX is also developing a chrome-style line of balloons called "TUFTEX Effects." Though other manufacturers have offered chrome balloons for years, Allison said TUFTEX waited to get it right.
Linking balloons are also in the pipeline, with forms already in testing. The goal is to have them available in both 6-inch and 11-inch sizes sometime in the first half of 2025.
Twisters Take Note
The expansion into twisting balloons also means TUFTEX is stepping into new event spaces. Allison attended Florida Super Jam, and the team will also have a presence at Twist & Shout. With more twisters giving positive feedback, Allison is eager to connect with this new segment of the balloon community.
TUFTEX Tuesdays: Real-Life Learning
A surprising revelation for some listeners (including Sara) was that TUFTEX Tuesdays are not online classes—they’re in-person workshops held at distributor locations across the U.S. and Canada. These events often feature local artists teaching trending techniques, classic designs, or even helium bouquet skills.
While the events are relatively low-pressure, they serve as both an educational opportunity and a stepping stone for artists who may be interested in teaching. Most events are free and draw significant attendance, with some locations welcoming 60–70 participants each month.

Upcoming Events: The TUFTEX Experience
Of course, the flagship event is the TUFTEX Experience, returning in 2025 after a successful debut in 2023. This year’s event will take place in Columbus, Ohio, offering expanded space and programming. The format will include three full days of classes, social events, and collaborative builds.
While the venue allows for a larger guest list, Allison says they’re intentionally capping attendance to maintain the high-quality, intimate feel of the first event.
Wrapping It Up
To close the episode, Sara asked Allison a few lighthearted questions. When asked about her favorite vacation spot, Allison said she loves New York City for its energy and anonymity. And her simple business advice? Stay open—to learning, to changing, and to trying new things.
