Business and Life Hacks for Solopreneurs
Running a balloon business on your own can feel like a constant juggling act—between clients, creativity, admin tasks, and family life, there’s barely time to think. That's why I loved my conversation about business and life hacks with my podcast guest Victoria.
In episode 378 of The Bright Balloon (curated by our friends at HI-FLOAT), I talked with Victoria of Balloons by Victoria, and we dive into what it really looks like to build a home-based business that supports your life—without sacrificing your sanity or success.
Trying to Do It All Alone
Like many of us, Victoria wore all the hats for a long time—installing, inflating, answering emails, making deliveries, and managing her household. She felt stuck in the cycle of doing everything herself because she thought hiring help was a luxury she couldn’t afford.
And even when she could afford it, she hesitated—stuck in her head, unsure how to start.
A Support System That Actually Works
Everything changed when Victoria gave herself permission to get help—and define the kind of help she needed.
She hired a high school student to handle inflation and trained her sister to manage inquiries and admin. Those two roles alone have completely changed how she works—and how she feels about her business.
She also shared her philosophy on staying small: she doesn’t have a commercial studio, doesn’t drive a branded van, and rents U-Haul trucks when needed. Why? Because it works. And it allows her to stay flexible, profitable, and present for her family.
Mindset Shifts + Smart Hacks
Victoria didn’t just shift her business—she overhauled her life. She talks openly about the small-but-mighty hacks that made the biggest difference, like:
-
Sticking to the boundaries and policies she set (and not bending under pressure)
-
Outsourcing both in her business and at home
-
Recognizing that hiring isn’t about growing huge—it’s about growing sustainably
Her story is such a great reminder that freedom and flexibility are possible, even as a solopreneur. It starts with getting clear about what you actually want your life and business to look like—and making decisions from that place.
