Why Every Balloon Business Owner Needs Branding Photos
As I swapped out old images and uploaded new professional photos of myself on my website one day, I realized I’d never actually talked about how I got these professional branding photos, or why I think they matter so much for balloon business owners.
So in this article I want to share: why personal branding photos are worth the effort, how I approached mine, and how you can do the same without it being awkward, expensive, or overwhelming.
Balloons Are Visual… But So Are You
If you run a balloon business, chances are your website and social media are full of beautiful installs. And that’s great, but at some point, people also want to see you. Especially if you’re a solo business owner.
I don’t have a big team. I’m the one making connections, replying to emails, networking locally, and showing up to events. Having professional photos of myself (photos that still clearly show balloons) felt like a missing piece of my brand.
The challenge? Real-life balloon photos are rarely flattering. When I’m actually working, my hair is full of static, I’m covered in dust, and I’m usually wearing leggings and a tight ponytail. Those photos tell a story, but not always the one I want front and center on my website.
Turning a Styled Shoot Into a Branding Session
This idea came together when a new marquee letter company opened in my town. We were chatting about collaborating and realized something important: neither of us needed more photos of our work. We both already had plenty.
What we needed were photos of us.
So we pulled in a third female-owned business, an event stylist, and hired a local photographer for a personal branding session. Instead of asking the photographer to work for free (like some styled shoots do), we paid her full rate and split the cost three ways.
Because we planned ahead, we coordinated outfits, did our hair and makeup, and created a staged environment where we could “pretend” to work with balloons while actually looking polished.
Why This Worked So Well
First, having a professional photographer made a huge difference. I’m not naturally comfortable in front of a camera, and having someone guide poses, angles, and expressions was invaluable.
Second, doing this with other vendors made it way less awkward. We laughed, felt uncomfortable together, and supported each other through it. We also got photos of us collaborating, which has been great for social media and cross-promotion.
But the biggest benefit surprised me: relationships. These weren’t just “tag-for-tag” connections. We became actual friends. We support each other’s businesses, celebrate milestones, and refer clients naturally.
Your Face Builds Trust
I say this all the time, but it’s worth repeating: people connect with people, not just businesses. That’s why Instagram Stories often get more engagement than perfectly edited photos. People want to see the face behind the brand.
If you don’t have professional photos yet, you have options. You can organize a small branding session like I did, or you can take advantage of opportunities at events like Balloon Boss Summit, where professional headshots are available. Either way, it’s worth planning for.
Your balloons may get attention but you are what builds connection, trust, and long-term growth.
If you’ve been putting this off, consider this your sign to get something on the calendar. It doesn’t have to be perfect. It just has to exist.
