How This Couple Built a Thriving Balloon Business While Raising a Newborn

Starting a business is hard. Starting a balloon business with a newborn around? That sounds impossible. But Brittany and Patrick of Main Street Balloons prove that not only is it possible — it can be done with joy, intention, and even a little Disney flair.

In episode 366 of The Bright Balloon podcast, I sat down with this husband-and-wife duo to talk about how they turned a $300 balloon side hustle into a thriving full-time business — all while navigating the early days of parenthood.

From Healthcare to Helium

Before balloons took over their lives (and basement), both Brittany and Patrick worked full-time in healthcare. They stumbled into balloon artistry as a creative outlet — something fun they could do together outside their demanding jobs.

“We kept seeing balloons everywhere,” Brittany says. “Eventually we were like, why not just try it?” With $300 in supplies, a handful of YouTube tutorials, and no formal training, Main Street Balloons was born.

It wasn’t instant success. They juggled installs around hospital shifts and leaned heavily on friends and family. But little by little, the business grew — and so did their confidence.

Building a Business — and a Baby

In the three years since starting, they’ve gone all in. Patrick now rarely works at the hospital, and Brittany has learned to set boundaries around her time (especially email!). Together, they’ve created a system that works for them: Brittany leads client communications and social media, while Patrick focuses on logistics and installs.

That system was tested when they welcomed their daughter. Between swollen hands, carpal tunnel, and postpartum recovery, Brittany had to temporarily step away — and Patrick took the lead on solo installs. Their story is a testament to the power of partnership, preparation, and knowing your limits.

“We actually prepped most of our jobs before we left for the hospital,” Brittany laughs. “Patrick was back installing just four days after we had her.”

No Debt, All Drive

One of the most impressive parts of their story is how intentional they’ve been with growth. They’ve never taken on a loan or gone into debt for the business — choosing instead to scale at their own pace and pay cash for everything, including their van.

They also credit their success to strong systems, goal setting, and yes — a lot of support from family and their balloon community. Brittany’s mom inflates, and Patrick’s mom manages inventory.

What’s Next?

Their next goal? A warehouse. But they’re not in a rush. For now, they’re focused on continuing to grow sustainably, raising their daughter, and making balloon art that brings joy to others.

Their story is an inspiration for anyone wondering if “now” is the right time to start something. Brittany and Patrick prove that you don’t need the perfect conditions — just commitment, creativity, and a little bit of magic.
